Me with Mapes and other monsters

Some of the monsters born on this blog made it into a book I made called “Monster Haiku”! There are 26 full-color spreads featuring Will Rutherford’s sweet haiku poetry.

We pre-sold the books from Feb 1 – Mar 3, and had an art show featuring the books as well as cards, posters, and original art on Friday, April 13.

100% of the profits from this project benefit March of Dimes. It looks like we’ll be able to donate more than $2,500, which is AWESOME. Yay for babies (and monsters).

This is for Val, who hates the color black when it has a little red in it.

I don’t blame her. We designers like our black to be #000, or a nice solid K = 100. Or, if you’re feeling fancy maybe a rich black (60, 40, 40, 100). None of this really dark, dark red or blue stuff. It’s confusing.

Rudy’s talents made him a real catch in Chameleon City. He was quite the lady’s lizard.

Or rather, he was. Regretfully, he was eaten by a bigger dumber chameleon one day after lunch.

Life lesson: Being the best can be rough(age).

With the fossil fuels gone, there was really only one alternative.

Yes, of course there were issues with powering our machinery with demons. They gummed the gears up with firedust, would mischievously aim their steam outputs at passersby, and would sometimes do the exact opposite of their programming.

But they almost never went on murderous rampages. Mostly never.
